Yes, I love Taiwan.

My most favourite visited place during my Taiwan trip is Jiufen 九份老街 (also known as Chiufen). There was an interesting story about this place. Long time ago there were only nine families. They have no road access and it was inconvenience to have grocery shopping. Thus, the families took turn to go down hill and nine pieces of every items are bought as reservation.  Jiufen means "nine portions".

Today, Jiufen is one of the must-visit-places. I went on a one-day trip, I should have pick a nice inn operates by the local for the night view and fishing! Anyway, don't worry about how to get there. I took the train heading the Ruifang station (瑞芳), from the station I took the connecting bus to Jiufen. It's very convenient and surprisingly cheaper than I thought. Let's see what you can find there.

Jiufen Old Street, the most prosperous shopping district. It goes through the village and you'll find many famous local delicacies and country snacks here. Many tourists walking in the street, and to be frank some of them were annoying. Blocking the street, rain drops dripping from their umbrella, talk loudly and 'abused' the food sample. Can tell most of them are from the mainland according to the accent. Despite that, I enjoyed my one-day trip in Jiufen!

Before Jiufen turned into a tourist attraction, this place used to be a gold mine. During the World War II, Allied Force soldiers (mainly British) were forced to work in the gold mines. After the war, the gold-mining activities were declined and soon Jiufen fades. After years, a Taiwanese film named 悲情城市 (City of Sadness) choose to shot here and won several international awards. People started to know Jiufen and it has became a tourist spot since then.

I will definitely visit this place again! On a side note, get the souvenir stamps from Jiufen Tourist Center. I sent a postcard from here to Malaysia and it only costs me less than RM5. Also, catch the last bus from Jiufen to Rui Fang Station at 5pm. Otherwise, you might need to get a room or take a cab. Jiufen, till then!
